The Adelaides are an exciting UK country music trio consisting of Paris, Alicia and Abi. They are another new country act forming part of the ever-growing British country music scene.
This year the girls are set to have a fantastic twelve months with the release of new music, and lots of other projects in the pipeline. Here we speak exclusively to The Adelaides about their love of country, dream collaborations, tour plans and much, much more;
Growing up who inspired your love of country music?
Paris: My parents listened to a lot of Shania Twain & Dolly Parton when I was younger, so I guess I’ve always loved country from a young age.
Alicia: I also grew up listening to country music. My mum and I shared a mutual love for harmonies and we always used to harmonise to Dolly Parton songs.
Abi: My Dad plays guitar and sings, my mum also sings, they were in a band together! I always used to jump in on rehearsals and they were always singing country! So I developed a love for it.
What made you want to start a band?
Abi: I’ve always loved country bands like Rascal Flatts and Lady Antebellum. I’m in love with harmonies and I love the energy bands give off! It’s so fun being on stage together.
Alicia: It’s always been a dream of mine to be in a band purely because I love being able to harmonise! There’s nothing better than being able to do what you love everyday and share it with your best friends!
Paris: I have collectively been in 4 harmony groups before The Adelaides so I guess I love performing with other people! Also there is such a huge gap in the market for a country trio so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to start it.
How do you feel your personalities merge to create The Adelaides’ sound?
We’re all best friends so this helps massively on stage. If one of us is having a bad day, there’s always one of us to help get each other through it! We’re all really positive girls and positivity is key! We also have our own little jokes about each song so you’ll probably see us looking over at each other having a little smirk!
Who are your all time musical heroes?
Abi: I have always loved Fleetwood Mac, their songs always have amazing lyrics and there’s always a story behind them. They have a completely original sound and their songs will never get old.
Paris: I’ve always been a huge fan of Bryan Adams. His songs are amazingly written and his voice gets me every time.
Alicia: For me, I have always absolutely loved Rascal Flatts. I love their lyrics, harmonies and their vocal gymnastics! I also have to mention my love for Dolly Parton, I think she’s is the Queen of country and I admire how much of a fantastic performer she is.
If you could collaborate with anyone who would you choose?
Alicia: There are so many artists I’d love to collaborate with but if I had to choose it would be Rascal Flatts or Dan & Shay.
Paris: For me, it would either be Bryan Adams or Dan & Shay!
Abi: I absolutely love Maren Morris and Florida Georgia Line, it would be incredible to collaborate with either of them.
Being a British country act, how excited are you about the boom in UK country music?
We’re so excited!! It’s amazing that country music is finally getting the recognition it deserves in the UK. C2C has been a big help with that and hopefully it’ll continue to grow. It was incredible playing at Country Music Week and seeing the enthusiasm for it and people genuinely interested in listening to good country music.
How do you feel your sound fits into the Brit Country scene?
Our sound is original and unique. Individually, we all have completely different voices that really compliment each other. We have a crossover sound of country & pop so we feel we can relate to lots of different people. So far we’ve had lots of good feedback from the hardcore country fans, especially after our set at The Borderline for Country Music Week! We also received great feedback from the Megan McKenna tour which attracted a completely different audience. So we’re really pleased that people are loving our music wherever we go. We can’t wait for our next performance!
Can fans expect some original music from you soon?
Absolutely! We’ve been in the studio a lot recently working on our sound and have also been played on Chris Country! We have lots of original material and we’re currently in the middle of writing a new song however we are yet to release anything. Fingers crossed for the new year!
Are you planning on doing a headline tour soon?
At the moment we’re still building up a fan base in the UK so for now we’re going to stick to support slots/festivals and focus on getting even more original material before we’re ready and can blow people away with a headline tour!
Where do you see yourselves in 10 years time?
I’m sure in the next 10 years we’ll have a few albums under our belt! We hope to have built up a strong fan base, although let’s hope it takes less than 10 years! ;)
