Earth Day! The Musical is taking place on Facebook Live in honor of Earth Day 2021. The special, hosted by science guy Bill Nye, features popular artists such as Justin Bieber and Maluma. This event was created in order to bring awareness to climate activism on an important day.
Facebook explained on their website that they are “empowering people to get informed and take action on climate change. We are also marking a milestone as our global operations are now supported by 100% renewable energy.”
The musical features appearances from young climate activists as well as Ben Platt, Charli and Dixie D’Amelio, CNCO, Cody Simpson, Idina Menzel, Jack Harlow, Steve Aoki, and Tori Kelly. Zac Efron, Desus Nice and The Kid Mero, Jasmine Cephas Jones, Karamo Brown and Nick Kroll.
The youngest member of the Biden White House Environmental Justice Advisory Council, 18-year-old Jerome Foster II, will also make a special appearance.
There are plenty of young activists involved with this special. 15-year-old activist and organizer Alexandria Villaseñor as well as actress and activist Milana Vayntrub will help host the event.
“Honored to co-host the EARTHDAY.org livestream … and to introduce incredible artists, movement leaders, and people doing the work daily to make our planet safer,” Vayntrub shared on Instagram.
Bill Nye takes this opportunity to teach viewers how they can take action for environmental causes as well as how we can help restore the planet going forward. Throughout the event and afterward, Facebook will promote the hashtag #RestoreOurEarthChallenge. This challenge encourages viewers to share photos and other content showing how they plan to reduce the effects of climate change and save the planet.
“Earth Day! The Musical” airs this Thursday on Facebook Watch. It is produced by Done+Dusted and in partnership with EARTHDAY.ORG.
Be sure to share how you plan to help the planet using #RestoreOurEarthChallenge on social media.
