Sydney-based alt-pop artist merci, mercy shared her vivid new single, “Black Cloud.” Written with her close collaborator Chris Collins (Middle Kids, Gang of Youths), “Black Cloud” is another taste of her honest lyricism and infectious melodies.
In typical merci, mercy fashion, “Black Cloud” turns a lyrically dark song exploring her mental health issues into an irresistible pop anthem. “Black Cloud” is lifted off her forthcoming sophomore EP out later this year via Liberation Records (Gordi, Julia Jacklin).
merci, mercy explains: “’Black Cloud’ is about my mental health taking a toll on my relationship. I’m unable to experience the simple joys of life with my partner because I’m consumed by a black cloud. I am the type of person that needs to know it will work out or else I won’t bother to try.
This song shows that I am working on myself to make the relationship successful, despite being wrapped in a black cloud. I’m willing to do the work because of how much I love this person; life would be a tragedy if I didn’t at least try.”
“Black Cloud” sees merci, mercy exposing her songwriting talents, alongside with proving her performing skillset, and unique abilities to catch the audience attention from the very first seconds. The new single from this Aussie songstress is a well crafted alternative pop tune with influences of indie, and other genres that all blend smoothly as merci, mercy shares her deepest thoughts.
