The biggest names in music are coming together for tonight to celebrate this year’s most memorable and best videos for one of the most jaw-dropping shows of all time — the 2023 MTV VMAs.
Taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ tonight (September 12), the official kick-off event for the MTV VMAs has a star-studded lineup of nominees, performers and presenters who are posing for photos and chatting with press in killer looks before the big show.
The red carpet includes a live TV special that showcases the glamorous arrival of the stars on the red carpet. The special, which kicks off at 6:30PM ET/PT on MTV, will be hosted by rap star Saweetie with Nessa, Dometi Pongo and Kevan Kenney, and features retrospective red carpet fashion, jaw-dropping celebrity stage moments from VMAs past, and celebratory reviews of today’s biggest performers and nominees. The red carpet pre-show will also host performances from NLE Choppa featuring Nelly and Sabrina Carpenter, making it a must-see event for fans.

Sean “Diddy” Combs will be receiving the Global Icon Award as well as making his return to the VMAs stage for the first time since 2005, and it will be a moment that you do not want to miss. Additionally, Shakira will receive the Video Vanguard Award, where she will also take the VMAs stage for the first time since 2006; and MTV and BACARDÍ will bring a VMAs celebration of Hip Hop’s 50th Anniversary with a finale performance by DMC., Doug E. Fresh, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Lil Wayne, LL COOL J and Nicki Minaj.
